Mastering Monero The future of private transactions SerHack 9781731079961 Books Reviews

  • This book aims to be more of a technical how-to than something for the lay person. Though the first 1/3 of of the book provides a useful overview, it then quickly delves into the more technical aspects of using Monero, with most of the rest of the book focusing on code, and the command line. For those that really want to look at Monero "under the hood", this is a great way of helping to orient users with the basics. Unlike Bitcoin, Monero is a completely different codebase and design, so this book serves as a very convenient on-ramp for those that are used to Bitcoin, but want to get their feet wet with Monero. For those looking to find a guide on integrating, or interacting with Monero's blockchain, or codebase, this book serves as a great starting point. It is also a great introduction for those wanting to learn the basics about Monero's commandline for creating wallets, addresses and transactions which are slightly more complex in comparison to Bitcoin.

As someone very familiar with Monero and Bitcoin, I can see that the information in this book is accurate and up to date. Though I kind of wish it went into more depth, but it works very well as a primer for people that don't know where to start like developers or even users that want a more hands on approach, or fuller understanding.

As far as I'm aware, this is the only book of it's type out there right now, so it gets 5 stars from me as the book definitely delivers on giving people a running start on using Monero, and covers a whole range of areas that are burning topics for new users.
  • Mastering Monero is well written and of course well-researched. The first couple chapters are excellent at showing newcomers the advantages of using Monero over fiat and other cryptos. I will certainly reference that next time I have a conversation about Monero or Bitcoin.

All of the information in the book is available online, but I think this format makes it even easier to absorb. I have been using Monero for a few years now and I still learned a few things from reading the book.

I recommend this to anyone who hasn't heard about crypto just as much as someone who's been involved for a while.
  • If you are interested in Monero--or cyryptocurrency in general--you should read this book. It's for everyone, with content that spans 1) using Monero to privately transfer value to 2) understanding the mathematical underpinnings of Monero's unique (as compared, say, to Bitcoin or Ethereum) algorithms to 3) understanding the open source software codebase behind Monero--for those interested in leveraging or adding to it. With this book, you will get a powerful toehold on using, understanding, and building the Monero software.
  • This aproachable and informative resource is another output of the vibrant Monero community. I hope to see many more editions of this text and will gladly contribute to it's continued maintenance. Kudos to the author Serhack for driving the project!
  • Take a look into the future. A future that doesn't contain unmeasurable national debt, unaccountable defense budgets and unending war. XMR monero is ushering in a new way to account.
  • Not only is this book the best guide to #Monero that I've ever seen, it's also a great example of how to create a comprehensive and engaging guide to anything. Writing is top notch, and the many pics are among the best I've ever seen for conveying complex concepts.
  • An accessible text on Monero (XMR), the fundamental building block of our future's digital economy. After reading this, I am more convinced than ever before. Monero is the real deal.
